It can be very disappointing when you try so hard to quit smoking and fail time after time.l

But don’t despair.  There are a lot of ways to quit smoking.  You just need to find the best one for you.

What ever method you choose it still requires a certain determination.  Make your decision and stick with it.

It is not an easy habit to give up.  The longer you have smoked the tougher quitting  will be.   The more ingrained the habit the more natural the more the gesture of smoking will feel.  So the gesture itself becomes addictive.  But it is the nicotine in  cigarettes that holds us in bondage because nicotine is  one of the most addictive substances on the planet.

Unfortunately there is no way to completely avoid withdrawal symptoms  when you do make the decision to quit.

But nevertheless there are acceptable ways to kick the habit for good.

If you do not succeed on the first attempt,  don’t be depressed about it.  Try again with a different approach.  It is worth the effort to keep trying.

One way to spur on your efforts is to give your self a little treat for every day that passes without lighting up.

Then, let the icing on the cake be that you revel in the amount of money you saved on cigarettes and use it to do something really enjoyable,  or perhaps let it accumulate towards an exotic holiday.

If you do things which make you happy when you are not smoking it can accelerate your efforts.

You might try to keep a list of the things you bought with the money you saved on cigarettes,  and give it a glance whenever the urge to light up strikes you.

Try the nicotine patch.  It is recognized as one of the most effective methods to stop smoking.

The patch can be a a powerful aid to bolster your decision to stop smoking for good.  The way it works is that it releases measured amounts of nicotine into your blood stream in ever decreasing dosages.

Patches are available for purchase over the counter in most pharmacies.  If you happen to have joined a smoke cessation group you are probably eligible for a discount.  In some cases as a registered member of a kick the habit group they are provided free.

Nicotine gum is another useful aid.  It too, releases measured  amounts of nicotine into your system but it also addresses the smoking reflex because the chewing action keeps your mouth busy.   So, if you chew the gum there will be less temptation to light up.

It is important to replace the smoking reflex  with something similar and chewing gum fills the need.

Which ever way you choose to help you stop smoking,  you will have to continue to be patient.  The habit will not disappear over night. In fact  the smoking habit may persist for some time.  But stick with it.  It will be worth it.

Also there are specialists that can help you if you really need it.

The Government is aiding and abetting you by legislating more restrictions on public smoking and by increasing the price of cigarette taxes.

We are all aware that it isn’t easy  and when you find what works and you  stick with it, then you are to be congratulated.

It will pay off handsomely in better health for you and in having more money to spend.   Also those around you will benefit.   So keep trying.
